Rest your head where Henry VIII may once have rested his….? 😨

If you read this article you’ll find the following opener: “….A Tudor mansion in Norfolk now costs the same as a London flat – why aren’t today’s wealthy elite interested in old-school splendour?….”

Well, I’d imagine it was because (a) they need to live in London, or (b) they’re not as rich as they make out and can’t afford to run such a huge place. Or (a) and (b) together, I suppose. The only folk I know of who can afford to run a huge estate in Norfolk and live in it, as well as in London, Windsor, Balmoral and elsewhere, are the royals at Sandringham.

East Barsham Manor has now been reduced from £4 million to £3 million, but still isn’t selling. “….It’s a Grade I-listed 16th-century mansion set in ornamental gardens. It costs nearly two grand a week to stop it falling down. So it’s not a viable option for most of those who could just about afford the price tag….” Good grief, and here I am flapping around about my tax for Tewkesbury Borough Council!

Another “selling point” for East Barsham is that Henry VIII is reputed to have stayed there on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Walsingham. Selling point? I’m afraid that’s definitely on the down side for me. Buy a house where that awful man may have once rested his darling head? No!!!

You can read much more about this house here and here.

  1. Of course, you could have it sanitized. As for me, I’m still wondering where I put those millions. Oh, that’s right! I didn’t have those. That puts me right out of the market.
