Annie Garthwaite’s ‘Cecily’ Optioned for TV

Cecily‘, a novel by author Annie Garthwaite about the life of Richard III and Edward IV‘s mother has been optioned for TV by Just John Films, a newly launched company headed by actors Kate Phillips, Amber Anderson and Rosie Day, who have appeared in such shows as Peaky Blinders, Good Omens, Black Mirror and Outlander. It is their first production.

This is great news–finally a TV show set during the WARS OF THE ROSES that is NOT Shakespeare and is from the Yorkist point-of-view. Along with Philippa Gregory‘s new play, Richard My Richard, this will keep hopefully the 15th century in people’s minds and point them towards further study and understanding…as well as providing good entertainment.

  1. This seems like very good news indeed, hopefully it will be a success and inspire others in the industry to explore pre Tudor times.
