Richard III had “multiple” illegitimate children….?

This article https://www.grunge.com/1455462/british-royals-rumored-illegitimate-children/?fbclid=IwAR3N6qRzYIpNBQa94jxqs1b9HGzNf_4G7mv-sK0xv3NxwBTywFmsG6v_6zU deals with the illegitimate offspring of various British royals, including, of course, Richard III. I was rather taken aback to read: “….Like many medieval rulers, Richard III had multiple illegitimate children….”

Good grief, thought I. How many new ones have they found? But no, it’s only the usual three. Whether three counts as multiple I’m not so sure. They sure as heck would for me. I had but one, and I don’t think she slept until she was four! 😵‍💫

However, back to Richard III. John of Gloucester, Katherine Plantagenet and Richard of Eastwell are named as his baseborn children. Oh, the irony. They all grew to adulthood whereas Richard’s only trueborn child, Edward of Middleham, Prince of Wales, died very young.

Edward IV gets a look-in too, of course. The tangle of his private life turning all the children of his liaison with Elizabeth Woodville into bastards. Other than that, it seems he only acknowledged one, an unnamed son.

As for the other royals listed in the article….well, a lot of it is conjecture. Perhaps not Henry I, who seems to have bedded anything that moved!

So, if you have a few minutes and a cup of coffee to hand, glancing through the above article might help to pass the time.
