Henry Tudor treated Elizabeth Woodville with kindness and generosity….!

Hmm, yes. If you believe the above heading you’ll believe anything. Let me explain it. Back in 2013 I read this article this article, which is pro-Richard and follows the facts in general.

But then everything was spoiled in the comments at the end, one of which contained the following:-

“….Richard met his fate on the battlefield at Redemore (Bosworth) on Monday 22nd August 1485, and Henry Tudor took the throne. Elizabeth Woodville may have been sent to a convent some 15 months after she was reinstated as Queen Dowager, but she was granted several grants of land and rights and her titles. She was very wealthy when she died and was not mistreated in any way….”

Um….EH? There’s no “may have been sent” about the convent, which was Bermondsey. And she wasn’t granted anything, in fact Henry took everything from her. Contrary to being “very wealthy” at death, she was impoverished. So what’s all this junk about darling Henry being so very kind and generous? He didn’t know the meaning of either word! You only have to look at the cherubic little face in the portrait at the top of this article to see the true nature of the man. In his case you definitely could tell the book by its cover.

Apart from this one hoot about Elizabeth Woodville’s huge wealth, the lengthy comments are worth a read. Unfortunately, for me at least, the images once contained in the article itself seem to have disappeared.
