Found under the living room floor….a medieval well and a sword….!

I find this story quite discomforting. Just the thought that merely crossing your living room might result in falling through the floor into a 15th-century well is enough to give me the shivers. Mind you, if I noticed a dip in the floor I’d have had it inspected a little more promptly than the ten years it took this gentleman in Plymouth. He knew about such things as sinkholes! My daughter lives in a house like this, but—thankfully—she’s moving!

A ring and a coin from 1725 have been found in the well, but the ring is undated. The other discovery is what is said to be either a sword or a sheath. The image below shows this item, and is the only image I’ve been able to find. It’s from this site. I’m no expert, but it looks like a long blade, and so is presumably that of a sword.

Whatever it is, it was found in the well. I’m afraid I could no more stay in that house than I could fly. I have a rather peculiar dread of water being where it shouldn’t be, and it definitely shouldn’t be immediately beneath my living room floor!
