The medieval remains of the Southwark palace of the Bishops of Winchester are still there….

Winchester Palace, Southwark, as imagined by Wenceslas Hollar

An item on another group, concerning the Southwark palace of the Bishops of Winchester, set me looking for more information. I knew where the palace was, of course, and who the “Winchester geese” were! You can read about them here.

Almost all the links about the palace that turn up in an online search are rather brief, and meant to entice visitors to the site (together with other London attractions), but if you go here and here, you’ll find more information. The image above of the reconstruction of the palace as drawn by Wenceslas Hollar came from the London Inheritance site.

But, of course, if you want the real nitty-gritty of the palace’s past, visit the trusty British History Online website, and this link.
